You know that feeling when you pass by a Cinema (the neon signs, the illuminated movie posters, the people, the excitement, the waft of popcorn) that pulls you in without thinking? You know the excitement when you pick your chair and buy your ticket? That’s how we want the Filmstadens app to be. Inspiring and attractive – like the moment that pulls you into the cinema.
At the same time efficiency and determent, capturing the moment of inspiration, not losing the impulse, making sure that the opened app leads to a bought ticket. In this assignment we would like you to challenge the status quo (the existing Filmstaden app) and show us what it should be like – both creating that special feeling AND capturing the moment.

First part of the process
My goal is to simplify the app and understand what makes users wanna use the app and go to the cinema.
My first thoughts when I received the brief was that the SF app was much better than I expected and used to be since it has been some problems to use it before. It is a hustle to match the cinema and the movie you want to see. So, with that improvement, I knew that the biggest challenge would be to understand the structure and make improvements who would make the app significant better.
For me when I started out with this project was one thing very important, to get to know the target group beforehand and understand their needs before I started to analysis the actual app and what’s needed to be improved. Since everyone goes to Cinema and has different needs and life situations I’d to go for the middle age entrepreneur and the economic student. I based my personas on real interviews.
MAPPING OUT
This is how the app looks like and is structured today. Mapping out the app helped me and learned a lot from how to improve it.
INSIGHTS
A search bar it’s necessary.
Map of where the cinema is.
The apps UI should be more consistent.
Easier to navigate through the app.
More speed - has a tendency to load for a long time.
A clearer product view.
Review of the movies based on what kind of target group you are.
Wireframes and recommendations
I took my insights and implemented it, in the re-design of the current app. Another thing I thought was unnecessary was the 5 options bar and toke it down to 3 - movies, search and home since that’s the actual function you want and need when you’re searching for cinemas. The only thing I didn’t change was the payment part since that is a job that deserves a case study itself.
